Nancy Hadley - The Scenic Artist and Muralist form Extreme Makeover Home Edition
Feuding Firefighters

Can you make over a kitchen for $1000 or less and get good results?  Yes, but be
sure to have free labor, time to make many many calls and visit many many
businesses until you get a price on materials that won't use up the entire budget.
In other words gather your friends and make new ones along the way.

For the sink and faucet I was able to get an incredible deal on a demo model from
Rohl - it's a good thing they admire the hard work, dedication and bravery of
firefighters.  For the countertop slabs I called the manufacturer, Caesarstone, and
they sold me slabs at a cut rate price directly - normally they require the use of
certified installers but they felt Thad and our team was up to the challenge.  For
the laminate flooring, lights and cabinet pulls I shopped at a home goods store on
sale.  For the curtains I bought deep discount fabric.

This was not an easy room to pull off but thankfully with a great team we did.  As
you may have noticed on the show installing the custom cut counters was a not
that easy.  Painting the cabinet faces took steady hands and a large area to spread
them out while they dried.  A little paint goes a long way to brighten up a dark
kitchen and don't forget that tile can be painted with the right primer!
